Budget Symposium 2008 promises to dissect Union Budget 2008 and filter the KEYWORDS
from the BUZZWORDS.
In the backdrop of India’s economic renaissance, Union Budget 2008 promises to be
a trend setter. As we seek to question and pave the way for invigorating changes,
Union Budget 2008 takes on another dimension in addition to providing impetus to
the Indian economy which stands on the verge of double digit growth.
Now a year old, the event will closely analyse Union Budget 2008 and its impact
on India Inc. A panel discussion among the stalwarts would set the stage for invoking
thought provoking ideas that promise to usher in a new era of growth for the Indian
economy.
This year’s edition will be held on March 2, 2008 in two sessions:
- The Pre-lunch session will feature addresses by industry captains
- The Post-lunch session will see our eminent guests discuss the crucial issues thrown
up by Union Budget’08 in an exciting panel discussion which will be moderated by
Mr. Harsha Subramaniam, Deputy News Editor, CNBC TV18
It will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience comprising of students and
corporate delegates.

Taking a cue from the inclusive growth theme of Union Budget 2007, the students
at SIBM conceptualised and formed an in-house Budget Committee. It comprised of
nine first and second year students and was mentored by Dr. Shubhada Rao, Chief
Economist, Yes Bank and Mr. Sandip Mukherjee, Executive Director, Tax and Regulatory
Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers Pvt. Ltd.
Assessing the previous budgets and existing schemes, the team analysed the demand
and supply gaps in specific areas namely Power, Ports, Education and Social Sectors.
The team presented their observations and suggestions in the form of a report to
Dr. Rao.
